Why don't I hear move sounds?

The four reasons audio goes silent and how to bring it back.

If moves are silent when you expect a click, the fix is almost always one of three things.

1. Open Settings. 2. Go to the Preferences tab. 3. Under Appearance & Gameplay , make sure Sound effects is on.

This is the single switch that controls move, capture, check, and game-end sounds.

Device Things to check --- --- iPhone / iPad The physical mute switch on the side. Silent mode silences in-browser audio. Mac System volume, output device (sometimes audio routes to a Bluetooth speaker that's off). Android Media volume slider (separate from ringer volume). Windows / Linux Volume mixer — the browser may be muted per-app.

Most browsers block sound until you've interacted with the page. Click or tap anywhere on the page first , then sounds will play normally on the next move.

If you're using strict privacy mode or an extension like uBlock with audio blocking, try a normal (non-private) window.

- Try a different browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) to rule out a device issue. - Reload the page — audio can fail to initialize on a slow first load. - Contact support with your browser and device if nothing works.
